Administrative history

Fremantle Prison was built by convict labour between 1851 and 1855, and was first occupied in 1855. The Prison was closed in 1991 when the last prisoners were transferred to the new prison at Casuarina.

Administrative history

The Sheriff's Office provides enforcement, jury and security services to courts. Enforcement services encompass the serving of documents, including subpoena's, writs and warrants. The Sheriff prepares jury books for the State's 12 jury districts. In addition, the Sheriff summonses people to act as jurors in the Perth Supreme and District Courts. The Sheriff's Office is also responsible for the control and supervision of jurors whilst not under the direction of the court.
