The Municipality of Kalgoorlie was gazetted as such on 13 February 1895. On 1 July 1961 its status was changed to that of Town of Kalgoorlie. On 15 April 1989, the Town of Kalgoorlie and the Shire of Boulder amalgamated to become the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
