Administrative history
The Mental Health Services Department provided a free comprehensive psychiatric service. The service was responsible for the prevention and treatment of mental illness throughout Western Australia. The Department also provided facilities for the assessment and care of the intellectually handicapped. In co-operation with the University of Western Australia, the Department assisted in psychiatric education at undergraduate and post-graduate levels.
