Administrative history
A Clerk of Courts was appointed for York from about 1852 until 1915. From 1915-1976 a Clerk of Courts was supplied from Northam. This ceased in 1976 when all court cases were heard in Northam except those heard in the Court of Petty Sessions which was presided over by the local policeman.

Scope and content
Due to the poor condition of these records when they were transfered to the Public Records Office, they were all grouped together into one consignment and filmed together in the order they appear,to minimize handling. Included in these records are - Plaints, Court documents and General correspondence. Information contained in these records include, Plaints name, date issued, details of the complaint. Court documents and general dorrespomdence contain various details. The records were in very poor condition and very difficult to read. The fact that most are not legible made it difficult to extract more information.
