Administrative history

Fremantle Prison was built by convict labour between 1851 and 1855, and was first occupied in 1855. The Prison was closed in 1991 when the last prisoners were transferred to the new prison at Casuarina.

Alphabetical registers of interviews with prisoners or other information including an alcoholic survey, native welfare interview book. This is an artificial series created by State Archives.
