Administrative history

The Pharmaceutical Council of Western Australia was established by the Pharmacy and Poisons Act in 1894 and successive legislation culminating in the Pharmacy Act of 1964. The Council was primarily responsible for administration of the Act; it was the regulating body controlling the practice of the profession and the registration of pharmacists and pharmacies in Western Australia.

The Pharmacy Act 2010 established the Pharmacy Registration Board of Western Australia on the 18 October 2010 superseding the Pharmaceutical Council of Western Australia.

Archival history

Material from the Pharmaceutical Council was deposited with both the State Records Office and the State Library of Western Australia (SLWA). A transfer of items was undertaken from SLWA under the auspices of the State Records (Consequential Provisions) Act and an associated review of State records held by SLWA in 2016 - 2017 (consignment 7580).
