Situated north of Marble Bar, Bamboo Creek State Battery was Western Australia's most northerly battery. There were other batteries nearby at Marble Bar (still operating in 1991) and Nullagine (dismantled). It is likely that when the Bamboo Creek battery was dismantled in 1962 the component parts were transferred to other batteries, particularly the one at Marble Bar. There have been 50 such batteries in Western Australia and over the years they have made an important contribution to the State's gold mining industry. The first battery was established at Norseman in 1898 and from then until 1987 they were under the jurisdiction of the Department of Mines. When responsibility for them was transferred to the Perth Mint in 1987 there were 13 still in operation. Many of these have been sold to prospectors with deposits nearby and they continue to receive ore intermittently. Some have been retained for heritage purposes. At Bamboo Creek State Battery 58,240 tonnes of ore were crushed and processed and gold recovered by a process of amalgamation. The tailings have enough gold to justify treatment by cyanidation.
