History

On 17 March 1914, Professor Walter George Woolnough, Arthur Allan Wilson and George William Simpson were appointed Royal Commissioners to inquire into and report upon all phases of the Collie Coal Industry. Preliminary geological and chemical research commenced and evidence was taken on the economic aspects of the industry. The Commission's investigations were postponed in August 1914 owing to the outbreak of war, but resumed in December 1915. The Royal Commission's report was finalised on 10 November 1916.
