History

The Soil Conservation Advisory Committee was created under the Soil Conservation and Land Act 1945 which was proclaimed the 1 July 1946. The first nominees of the the committee were gazetted 16 May 1947 (see: Government Gazette 1947 p. 837). The Committee's functions were to consider general aspects of soil erosion and conservation and to make recommendations to the Soil Conservation Commission. Prior to the establishment of the Soil Conservation Committee, soil erosion matters had been handled by a departmental committee, the Soil Erosion Committee.
