Administrative history
Fremantle Prison was built by convict labour between 1851 and 1855, and was first occupied in 1855. The Prison was closed in 1991 when the last prisoners were transferred to the new prison at Casuarina.

Scope and content
The prison staff time record books recorded the hours worked by staff for each day in fortnightly or monthly periods. Show staff member's name and hours worked or off duty, sick leave etc. Included with this series are staff records of leave and wages records.
At the back of Cons 4413 (Series 784) is one page of staff leave information for 1949-1952. At the front of Cons 4426 (Series 787) is a record of prison officers on duty between 29-Jul-1944 and 07-May-1945.
