On 12 September 1956, a Select Committee was appointed to inquire into and report upon the extent to which restrictive trade practices or agreements detrimental to the public interest operate in trade and commerce in Western Australia and whether any, and if so, what, legislation should be passed in this State in regard thereto.
On 1 February 1957, the members of the Select Committee were duly appointed as a Royal Commission to continue this inquiry.
