An Order-in-Council on 20 September 1962 (gazetted 28 September 1962) changed the Shire of Melville to the Town of Melville. An Order-in-Council of 10 April 1968 (gazetted 3 May 1968) changed the Town of Melville to the City of Melville. Melville was Western Australia's sixth municipal City.
