History
The Bureau, within the Department of Labour, was set up as the secretariat for the Consumer Affairs Council in 1971. The Bureau received and dealt with complaints from consumers. In 1975 the Bureau's name was changed to Consumer Affairs Bureau. In 1981 the Consumer Affairs Council was abolished and its functions were transferred to the Consumer Affairs Bureau.
