History
The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) was established under the terms of the Environmental Protection Act 1971 and was set up to provide environmental policies and advice. The same Act also made provision for a Department of Environmental Protection and an Environmental Protection Council.
The Environmental Protection Authority Act 1986 reconstituted the EPA as a department in February 1987.
