Administrative history

The State Prospecting Board was created on 1 September 1919 to provide assistance to prospecting parties in Western Australia. It established Advisory Boards in various centres including Meekatharra and Mt Magnet. In 1922 it set up a State Prospecting Party (subsequently SPP #1) and by June 1924 five such parties had been sent out to explore remote areas of Western Australia and report on any mineralisation found.

Photographs of the State Prospecting Party. The first SPP was established by the State Prospecting Board (a subsidiary of the Mines Department) in 1922 and there were at least six subsequent parties sent out to explore mineralisation in remote areas of Western Australia.
