History
Under the McGowan Government, a series of Machinery of Government changes were made to the public sector creating a number of new amalgamated departments.
The Department of Mines and Petroleum and the regulatory and Labour Relations functions of the Department of Commerce were merged on 1 July 2017 to form the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety.
The Department is tasked with regulating the mining, building and construction industry and elevating the focus on worker safety. The Department also assumed consumer protection responsibilities.
