The Registry Department was responsible for the registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages within the Swan River Colony.
The Department was also responsible for the collection and reporting of statistical information. (A Government Statistician was first appointed in February 1896 in the succeeding Registrar General's Department).

Registrations showing name and sex of child, date and place of birth, profession, age and birthplace of parents. Registrations are in one sequence from 1841 to 1886 and in annual sequences thereafter.
Birth registrations for the period 1841 - 1932 can be searched via the website of the Department of the Attorney General (see Briding Aids below). The State Records Office also holds a microfiche copy of the Registrar General's Index to Births for the period 1841- 1905. This index is accessible to members of the public at the State Records Office Search Room.
