The Department of Lands was established on the 1st July 2013 following the restructure of the Department of Regional Development and Lands. The Department was responsible for the administration of Western Australia's Crown Land and pastoral estate. Key functions included: state land sales and leases, assembling land for residential and commercial purposes as well as infrastructure projects; administering pastoral leases and providing support to the Pastoral Lands Board; providing appropriate resolution of native title; and managing the condition of the land.
Under the McGowan government, the Department of Lands, the Department of Planning, and the State Heritage office were consolidated to form the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage on 1 July 2017.
