History
On 3 February 2003, the industry and trade functions of the Department of Industry and Technology merged with the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources to form the Department of Industry and Resources.
The Department operated through three key business groups:
- Mineral and Petroleum Resources;
- Business and Trade Services; and
- Investment Services.
On 1 April 2006 the Office of Science and Innovation was transferred to the Department of Industry and Resources from the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
The Department was abolished as of 1 January 2009 when three new departments were formed: the Department of Mines and Petroleum; the Department of State Development (which also incorporated the functions of the Office of Development Appeals Coordination which had previously operated within the Department of the Premier and Cabinet); and the Department of Commerce (which assumed the role of the previous Department of Consumer and Employment Protection but which also incorporated the Science and Innovation functions of the Department of Industry and Resources).
